Trident Building Systems partnered with Brasfield and Gorrie for an 8-story oncology inpatient and surgical tower that opened in 2021 and partnered with Charles Perry Partners for Radiation Oncology Center that opened in 2020. The Cancer Institute’s continued expansion is largely due to the generous support from the Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation’s Leading with Care donors. To date, the Leading with Care campaign has raised more than $56 million for cancer care advancements at Sarasota Memorial, including a transformational $25 million gift from the Brian and Sheila Jellison Family Foundation.
Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s 895-bed flagship facility has been consistently recognized as one of the nation’s best acute-care hospitals, with superior patient outcomes and a complete continuum of care — from trauma, emergency and urgent care services to laboratory and diagnostic imaging, home health, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation. SMH is the only hospital in Florida to have consistently earned the federal Center for Medicare and Medicaid’s highest 5-star rating for overall quality and safety since the rating system launched in 2016.
The 8-story inpatient and surgical Oncology Tower elevates the art and industry of cancer treatment in Southwest Florida. The tower provides patients with modern cancer care — from diagnosis and intervention to survivorship care. The new Oncology Tower was built with patients’ needs in mind. Its many features and design details were carefully chosen to create a comfortable, welcoming environment that promotes healing and offers convenient access to comprehensive care, close to home. The cancer care tower’s features include 180,000 square feet dedicated to parties with cancer, 2 floors housing 56 dedicated private suites, a family center, 9 operating rooms outfitted with the latest surgical technology, including leading-edge robotic surgical suites with Da Vinci robots, Onsite integrative cancer care with counseling services, patient navigators and other support programs guiding patient along their cancer journey, a health focused rooftop cafe and juice bar with stunning views of Sarasota bay, a dedicated entrance, lobby, and registration area with free valet services, and an onsite oncology pharmacy and bedside prescription delivery service.
The 17,000 square foot Radiation Oncology Center includes two linear accelerators for external beam radiation, designed to destroy cancer cells while leaving normal cells intact; a CT scan stimulator to define the location, shape, and size of the treatment area; integrative care services to support a holistic approach to patient care; radiation oncology offices; and a serenity patio.
